Praying for the Nations

 

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I (Jesus) commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28: 19-20 (NAS)

 

 

 

As thousands participate in "40 Days of Prayer" for America, Henry Blackaby reminds us that the LORD has a heart for the nations. Please join him as he leads in prayer for revival throughout the nations, and praise the LORD because He hears our prayers!

Our Mission

 

"Let everyone call urgently (cry mightily) on God..."

Jonah 3:8 (NIV)

 

 

God gave Jonah a mission: "Go to Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me." (Jonah 1:2). After Jonah ran away from the LORD, God dealt with his disobedience. Distressed, Jonah cried out the the LORD, and repented. The LORD delivered him from the belly of the fish.

 

Again, God told Jonah to go to Nineveh. Jonah obeyed, proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned." The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast and put on sackcloth (Jonah 3: 4-5). The king issued a proclamation to fast, turn from evil, and urgently call on God (Jonah 3: 6-9). God saw what they did and had compassion. The LORD spared them from destruction (Jonah 3: 10).

 

Like Nineveh, our nation has sinned against the LORD. Pray that we, as a nation, will humble ourselves, turn from our wickedness, and call urgently on the LORD. Our God is gracious and compassionate; slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity (Jonah 4:2).

 

As Praying Grandmothers, our mission is to pray for our grandchildren and the world they live in. And their world, looks much like Nineveh. We have two opportunities before us:

 

• "If My People 2012" - Commit to pray for America for 40 days leading up to our national election. Sign up at www.ifmypeople2012.org You will receive emails with each day's prayer topic.
• "40 Days for Life" - Christians meet to peacefully stand and pray in front of local abortion clinics. Pray for God's grace and mercy, rather than protest.

40 Days for Life - Fall 2012

"40 Days for Life" begins today, September 26,  and continues through November 4, 2012. Please join together with thousands throughout the world as we stand in the gap for the unborn. Every life is precious to the LORD!

 

 

 





WISDOM

A new school year is underway. After purchasing new clothes, school supplies, and textbooks, students are "ready" for school. But, in our society, wisdom is lacking. "Wisdom" is NEVER on the school supply list! God's Word tells us to seek wisdom (Prov. 2:4). The LORD promises to generously give wisdom to those who ask (James 1:5). In addition to gaining wisdom, we also pray for our grandchildren to develop godly attitudes, place their confidence in the LORD, set right priorites, treat others with love and respect, obey those in authority, and resist temptation.

The Lord gave me this acronymn:

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Col. 3:23 (NIV)

I  can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil. 4:13 (NKJV)

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matt. 6: 25-33 (NAS)

Do to others as you would like them to do to you. Luke 6:31 (NLT)

Obey God, parents, and those in authority. John 15:14; Col. 3:20; Heb. 13:17

"Mimi, Do You Have Any Gum?"

During a four-day stay with Mimi and Grandpa, one of our granddaughters made it known they are allowed to chew gum on Fridays.

On the final night with our grandchildren, a Friday, we attended a youth dance performance at our church. During the last number,  "Sparkles" (my youngest granddaughter) suddenly realizes it's Friday, and she is lacking! She wants gum, and goes in urgent pursuit!

She rushes to me. "Mimi, do you have any gum?!!!"

"No, I don't. Mimi doesn't chew gum."

She turns and darts to her Grandpa. "Grandpa, do you have gum?" Another "No".

After the performance, Sparkles remains relentless, sounding almost desperate..."Mimi, don't you have any gum?"

"No Sparkles. I already told you I don't have any gum."

Thanks to Grandpa, there was gum at home. Finally, Sparkles got her Friday piece of gum. And, because her Grandpa is generous, Sparkles received a Saturday piece of gum as well.

My hope is that Sparkles, in her lifetime, pursues wisdom with the same passion that she chases after a stick of gum.

Proverbs 4:7 says, "Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom..." (NKJV). "Principal thing" refers to "the beginning, the first, the chief, the best". "Get" means "to acquire, create, buy, possess".
 
According to Proverbs 2, wisdom comes from the LORD, and we get wisdom by seeking it. God gives generously to all who ask for wisdom (James 1:5).

As praying grandmothers, we're asking God to give our loved ones the desire to be wise, to actively pursue wisdom, and to pay attention to His Word.

The next time Sparkles asks for gum, I'll whisper a little prayer for the LORD to bless her with wisdom; and then, I'll hand her a piece!

Mammy's Prayer





In our prayer group, many of us possess written documentation of our grandparents' faith. What a treasure! This is Mammy's prayer:

 

 

Dear Heavenly Father,

 

We thank You this a.m. for the blessings of another day. We thank Thee for being permitted to meet at this home for prayer service to help each other.

 

Fill each heart with love for Thee and may each heart go up to Thee in praise and thanksgiving for the many blessings we have received from Thy bounteous hand.

 

Help us dear Father to love Thee more and serve better.

 

Bless this meeting and may much good be done and give us a Baptism of Thy Holy Spirit.

 

Forgive us our sins. Bless all for whom we should pray, the sick and afflicted and the needy.

 

We pray in Jesus' Holy Name.

How Will They Know?

"...Rejoice that your names are written in Heaven."

How will they know?

In my family, we are blessed to have received a Godly heritage that has been passed down from one generation to the next. The evidence is recorded in letters, Bible notations, and the living out of faith.  All are sweet discoveries for me to know that there have been many praying ancestors in my family tree.

Clearly the written word is important to God since Jesus tells us to "rejoice that your names are written in Heaven." Luke 10: 20 (NIV). Many examples exist in Paul's letters in the New Testament where he continually encourages the saints.  They are written letters, that we have the privilege to read and be encouraged, also.

Many resources are available so that your descendants will know and understand the depth of your faith. There are prayer journals, scrapbooks, letters, Bible notations, and many other ways to record your walk with the Lord for your loved ones to read. And while "oral history" (the telling of faith stories) is important also,  the written stories are more lasting for future generations to read.

Let's pray for every grandmother to make a commitment to begin writing down her walk with the Lord for her descendants.

And so, I ask you: "How will they know?"
